Welcome to the Mamaroneck Historic Harbor Street Fair 2008.  We are very pleased to continue this wonderful tradition. This year’s event will be held on Sunday, June 22nd, 2008, from 11am - 5pm.

Patriotic Opening Ceremony

Come to Grandstand at 11 a.m. — see Color Guards from U.S. Army and U.S. Navy in procession with Mayor Kathy Savolt, Village Trustees, Village Manager, and Street Fair Chairwoman as they meet the invited dignitaries on stage; National Anthem and other songs will be performed by Broadway Child Stars Alexandra Sullivan and Carly Sonenclare.

  • Business Vendors with fine goods to buy & give-aways (Downtown)

  • Downtown merchants open with fair-day sales

There’s something for everyone, from swing music to New Age rock! Live Music, dancing, storytelling, and more, in over a half-dozen locations.

Stroll through Mamaroneck of yesteryear and today on a historic timeline with the Colonial days through 1800s at the Harbor, and progressing up in time on Mamaroneck Avenue through the early moviemaking days of the 20’s, WWII and the swing era, to the present.

HARBOR ISLAND PARK AND WATERFRONT ATTRACTIONS

Sealife

  • TALL SHIPS: Tour historic tall ships docked in the Harbor; experience a floating classroom on board with activities like touch tanks, etc.

  • HISTORIC CHILDREN’S GAMES - engage in colonial games and have old-fashioned fun.

  • COLONIAL CRAFTSPEOPLE - Demonstrations of period crafts by a blacksmith, weaver and a cooper.

  • ECO-VILLAGE - Sustainability is an attempt to provide the best outcomes for the human and natural environments both now and into the indefinite future.  As part of this great display, Norwalk Aquarium will be joining us with their ”touch tanks” and provide other great ways to learn about marine life.  

    • Come watch or participate in an old-fashioned log cutting at 11:30am, 12:30pm and 1:30pm.

    • Mystic Seaport will be joining us with historic role players, marine educators, and the sea shanty singers.

    • Many environmental groups will converge for the day to focus on our most precious resource and tell you how you too can make a difference. 

  • HISTORIC 1816 ONE-ROOM SCHOOLHOUSE - tour and experience school days long ago… Hear the story of the Historic Skirmish of Heathcote Hill. Lectures at 12:30pm and 3pm.
  • WATER TREATMENT PLANT TOURS - continuous 30-minute educational tours.
  • MUSIC TENT AT THE HARBOR - Come hear music all day including: 
    • Blackout 77
    • Reunion
    • Sunny Daze and the Barn Raisers
  • HARBOR ISLAND PLAYGROUND - Come enjoy our great playground!

(Food will be available in the Harbor, in the main food court downtown (accessible via antique trolley), or you can walk to great local restaurants right on the Avenue!

  • MOVIEMAKING IN MAMARONECK: View a tribute to Mamaroneck’s movie making days of the 20’s. Silent films at Clearview Playhouse movie theatre. 12pm - Silent movies, Ben Model (pianist 12 - 4pm). 1:30pm and 3pm - Movie Showing

  • ENTERTAINMENT SOUNDSTAGE - site of opening ceremonies, local ; continuous live performances throughout the day.

    • Also don’t miss out on Cafe Mozart’s entertainment!

  • MORE ENTERTAINMENT - Come join us outside the Clearview Cinemas at 12:30pm to hear the Bell Choir, at 2:30pm to see the Village of Mamaroneck Dancers, at 3:00pm to hear Han Noo Ri Korean Drummers and at 3:30pm for Ricardo Gautreau.

  • TRIBUTE TO VETERANS - Historic vehicles, photos and more. Military vets of any period in Mamaroneck invited to come in their old uniforms.

  • HISTORIC MAMARONECK PHOTO GALLERY of Mamaroneck Village of Yesteryear displayed on local business windows (more photos enlarged with captions), and in street display by Mamaroneck Historical Society.

  • FOOD COURT - broad array of international foods and a shady spot to sit and enjoy between Halstead & Spencer Avenues. Central business district Mamaroneck Avenue restaurants also will have food at their storefronts!
  • COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS - learn about our local non-profit organizations - people helping people! (exhibits also at harbor, when appropriate).

THROUGHOUT FAIR ROUTE

  • STROLLING MUSICIANS/ENTERTAINERS such as “The Notetakers” Barbershop Quartet; stilt-walker; banjo player Bruce McNichols, Connie the Clown, mime and more.
  • HISTORICAL PORTRAYERS - Historical society volunteers in period costume as a character from our history with speech about what our village was like 100 or 200 years ago, at different stations and strolling up and down the event. Robert Ripley, Anne Richbell, James Fenimore Cooper

  • ANTIQUE TROLLEY to run between Mamaroneck Avenue business district at Food Court and Harbor.
